Rapid drying

Datasheet Ciment Fondu®

Heat released by the ultra-rapid hardening of Ciment Fondu® concrete enables concreting in cold weather and even below freezing point down to -10°C (N.B. concrete must be protected from freezing until it sets).

Use down to -10°C

  • Overnight work: subject to risk of freezing
  • Road works
  • Refrigeration chambers/ cold stores.

Guidelines

  • Use a clean concrete-mixer
  • Use clean drinking water, hot if possible
  • Do not exceed 0.40 water/cement ratio, i.e. 10 litres water for 25 kg of Ciment Fondu®
  • Never add water during concreting
  • Below 0°C, the aggregates should be stored in conditions to prevent them from freezing.

Directions for use

PREPARATION
To ensure production of a dense durable concrete, all formwork should be watertight, clean and coated with mould oil or utilise polythene sheeting.

MIXING
Mix preparation in a concrete mixer. The raw materials are normally added in the following order: gravel, 80% of the gauging water, Ciment Fondu®, sand and then the remaining water.

WORKING TIME
The concrete should be placed as soon as possible after mixing. Working times are possible up to 1 hour (less when using hot water).

PLACING
For best results compact the concrete using a poker vibrator.

PROTECTION
After placing the concrete should be insulated to avoid the risk of it freezing prior to it setting. Even at temperatures close to zero it is possible to return the concrete to service within several hours.

Ciment Fondu® concrete may be batched and delivered ready mixed.
